Action6 - Sustainable use of tuna resources | Organization for the Promotion of Responsible Tuna Fisheries (OPRT)

OPRT promotes implementation of necessary measures for the protection of sea birds and sea turtles that are incidentally caught in commercial fishing operations. OPRT also promotes sustainable use of sharks that are incidentally caught.

The long line fishery incidentally catches sea turtles and sea birds (bycatch). It also incidentally catches sharks, which should be sustainably utilized. The OPRT established its bycatch policy and conducts activities towards reduction of bycatches of sea turtles and sea birds.
